Shortreed has been with Ascent Hospitality, parent company of Perkins and Huddle House, since he was hired as Huddle House president in 2023. As COO, he will oversee operations at both Huddle House and Perkins with a focus on strategic growth, operations and franchise relations, according to a press release.
He will also lead an ongoing transformation at Perkins, which began last year with a new brand identity and modernized restaurant image as well as the introduction of a fast casual Griddle & Go concept. As Ascent Hospitality’s COO, he will work alongside the Perkins leadership team and operators to continue improving the guest experience and drive sustained growth.
In his position at Huddle House, Shortreed enhanced and reorganized the leadership team and helped drive momentum “despite current market challenges,” the press release said. Under Shortreed’s leadership and the brand’s “Innovate / Elevate / Communicate” approach, Huddle House is now positioned to reach $1 million average unit volumes and 500 units within the next five years.
Prior to joining Ascent, Shortreed served as president then CEO of Long John Silver’s. During his time at Long John Silver’s, Shortreed improved the brand by boosting food quality, simplifying operations, improving profitability and overseeing a remodel program that is still underway at the seafood QSR, according to the press release. Shortreed has over 40 years of experience in QSRs, including various leadership roles at Yum Brands.
