Dive Insight:
Chick-fil-A restaurants have been able to opt-in to offer the Spicy Chicken Biscuit for years now. The chain received positive customer feedback about the product, which “has been the most requested breakfast menu item to bring back permanently,” the company said. About half of Chick-fil-A’s system chose to add the breakfast sandwich last year.
When innovating its menu, the company evaluates what flavors and product types guests may prefer, and ensures that additions won’t add burden to kitchen operations.
To make the Spicy Chicken Biscuit, employees start making rolling biscuits at 5:30 a.m. and batches are made throughout the morning. This item is similar to the chain’s Chicken Biscuit but is seasoned with a “spicy blend of peppers,” the company wrote in an online post. The Spicy Chicken Biscuit is available for pickup, delivery and catering, the company said.
Also on Monday, the QSR rolled out the ability for customers to personalize their orders on the Chick-fil-A app. Some examples of customizations include Strawberry Lemonade and adding pepper jack cheese and barbecue sauce to a chicken sandwich. The company is also working to improve speed of service and is deploying geofencing at units nationwide after testing the technology at about 100 restaurants.
