Chipotle executive Adam Rymer will start as chief financial officer beginning Oct. 1, the company said Wednesday in a press release. Rymer will report to interim CEO Scott Boatwright. Rymer, who previously served as the chain’s vice president of finance, was originally set to start as CFO on Jan. 1.
Rymer was tapped to fill the post following the announcement of Jack Hartung’s retirement, originally scheduled for the end of March. However, with Brian Niccol leaving his CEO post for Starbucks, Hartung will remain at the chain as president and chief strategy officer indefinitely. His new role will also begin on Oct. 1.
Jamie McConnell, previously vice president and controller, will become chief accounting and administrative officer, reporting to Rymer. Her promotion will also go into effect the same date as the other two transitions. McConnell has been with the company since 2018.
Rymer has been with Chipotle for 15 years and in his previous position oversaw corporate finance, field finance and investor relations.
“There’s tremendous growth opportunity ahead for Chipotle, and I look forward to delivering on our strategic priorities and driving value for our guests, our employees and our shareholders,” Rymer said in a statement.
Chipotle’s board of directors also put retention plans in effect for its entire leadership team to ensure continuity during the transition period. Chipotle’s executive officer team — excluding Hartung’s 20-plus-year tenure — have spent an average of about seven years at the company.
