Dive Brief:
- Chowly has acquired Targetable, a digital marketing platform for restaurants, the company said on Thursday. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.
- This is the second acquisition Chowly has made in about a year following its buyout of digital ordering platform Koala in early 2023, which led to the launch of Chowly Online Ordering in June.
- The transaction will allow Chowly to expand its product suite to “help increase demand for restaurants,” according to the press release.
Dive Insight:
Consolidation in the restaurant technology industry will likely continue into the new year as the push toward having one-stop vendors continues. Toast has made several acquisitions in the past few years, including buying Delphi Display Systems to provide digital display and drive-thru technology to QSR clients. Deliverect, which integrates online orders for restaurants, bought ChatFood last year to add dine-in ordering to its platform.
Chowly’s acquisition of Targetable is part of the company’s strategy to offer small and medium-sized businesses tools for digital channels and off-premise segments. The addition of Targetable’s digital marketing technology could boost Chowly’s ability to drive online ordering traffic and integrate with a restaurant’s point-of-sales system. Chowly claims that this will help restaurants go from having to work with five-plus vendors to one vendor.
Teams from both companies are working on creating a product combination and will provide more details in the coming months. Chowly currently works with over 17,000 locations across over 3,000 restaurant brands.
