Name: Chad Gretzema
New Title: Brand President, Del Taco
Previous Title: Chief Operating Officer, Del Taco
Gretzema will oversee Del Taco as the brand continues to deepen its integration with Jack in the Box, leveraging increased scale and shared services to strengthen both brands. Gretzema, who has been with the brand since 2012, according to a press release, was COO at the Mexican QSR chain when it was acquired by Jack in the Box for $575 million in December.
Gretzema replaces John Cappasola, who served as president and CEO of Del Taco from 2017 to June 2022, according to LinkedIn. Gretzema has 25 years of food and restaurant experience, including roles at Einstein Noah Restaurant Group, Noodles & Company and Oscar Mayer Foods.
"Chad has been an instrumental part of the executive team at Del Taco that has compiled an impressive eight consecutive years of positive franchise same-store sales,” Jack in the Box CEO Darin Harris said in a press release.
Del Taco operates about 600 restaurants in 16 states. The brand has grown since the December acquisition, Harris told investors on Jack in the Box’s Q2 2022 earnings call on May 26. In the months before the acquisition, Del Taco added dozens of restaurants to its development pipeline and rolled out a loyalty program.
“Del Taco signed 10 development agreements in Q2 and new franchisees have signed up for 74 units across 11 states since 2021,” Harris said on the earnings call. Harris said the taco chain’s same-store sales increased about 2.5% in the quarter.
