Papa Johns has appointed Mark Shambura as chief marketing officer, effective May 8, per a company press release. The fast casual veteran will have a wide remit across brand marketing and advertising; media and field activation; menu strategy and product innovation; and digital customer experience spanning owned channels, loyalty and other partnerships.
Shambura joins Papa Johns after more than four years as CMO at Mod Pizza, a fast-growing pizza chain. In a statement, Papa Johns President and CEO Rob Lynch called out Shambura's industry experience and "digital-first, analytics-led approach."
"Mark’s consumer-centric mindset will be critical as we continue to enhance every single touchpoint of the customer experience — from our digital channels to our menu to our brand — to drive engagement and growth," Lynch said.
At Mod Pizza, Shambura supported growth by scaling digital efforts and product innovation and producing engaging content in the arenas of advertising, paid media, social, loyalty and field marketing. Prior to that, he worked as executive director of marketing at Chipotle Mexican Grill, where he helped lead the "Real Ingredients" strategy and campaign.
Shambura replaces Anne Fischer, who was appointed CMO in 2022 but left earlier this year. Papa Johns this year has also seen COO Max Wetzel and CFO Ann Gugino resign their positions. The chain will announce its latest quarterly earnings on May 4.
