Uber and Coco have partnered to launch sidewalk-roaming delivery robots on Uber Eats, the companies said Monday. Coco will start delivering for Uber Eats in Los Angeles starting this week and expand into additional cities in future months.
“As we continue to popularize robot delivery in Los Angeles, our partnership with Coco drives us another step towards a more sustainable and autonomous future for delivery,” Noah Zych, global head of autonomous mobility and delivery at Uber, said in a statement.
Coco already works with hundreds of merchants in the Los Angeles area, including Sweetfin and Stellar Pizza. It serves the areas of Santa Monica, Venice, West Los Angeles, Westwood, West Hollywood, Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown and University Park, California.
Coco has over 1,000 robots serving customers in Finland as well as Los Angeles. The robotics company said it has completed over 300,000 zero-emissions deliveries since 2020, when it was founded, and plans to further expand in the U.S. and Europe with thousands of more robots that are currently in development.
Uber has forged several robot delivery partnerships as it looks for new ways to ferry food to peoples’ doors. Last year, it expanded its partnership with Serve Robotics, allowing it to use up to 2,000 Serve robots across the U.S. Uber Eats also works with Cartken in Miami, Florida, and in some markets in Virginia.
